Friction Fest is over – long live Friction Fest

Friction Fest 2010 – We are looking back at a weekend of eclectic musical performances covering the widest possible range of styles within the vast realm of experimental music. Thanks to everyone who came out for the support of a highly risky undertaking, and for contributing to the great atmosphere of the festival!

Everything went down very smooth and our own impressions paired with the countless positive feedback we have received from punters and media reaffirm us of our concept and encourage us to carry on – so let’s make it official right here, there WILL be another edition of Friction Fest next year, and we are going to start working on it very soon! Check back frequently for updates.

We would like to thank everyone involved, especially the countless voluntary helpers who went out of their way to make this happen. Without all of you, this festival quite simply could not have taken place!

We also would like to thank the staff of Astra, who have equally contributed to limiting friction to the musical program alone, rather than organisational matters – despite the problems beforehand.
Retrospectively, we feel that the fact that the Cassiopeia stage was moved into the foyer of Astra was beneficial for everyone, especially all the bands who played the foyer stage. Having all performances take place within one venue greatly increased audience attendance during the performances on the foyer stage, reduced walking distances for the audience and eliminated overlapping schedules.

We are happy you all are coming and we hope you enjoy your time at FRICTION FEST!
We are proud to present you what we all consider an amazing and unique  lineup.

Astra vs. Cassiopeia stages
Due to unforeseen problems with the Astra venue owner, we had to move the stage that was originally planned to be at Cassiopeia, into the foyer of the Astra venue. Simply put, the owner of Astra was worried about his bar profit. We were forced to accept these conditions. Needless to say, WE ARE EXTREMELY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS.

Every bad side has its positive aspects though: The new setup enables us to have a time-schedule with no overlaps, and it is possible to see all bands’ sets in full length.

Exit Policy
For the same reasons mentioned above, we were forced to pursue the following exit policy: every visitor can leave the festival premises only once. Upon exit, he will receive a stamp. If you try to exit a second time and have a stamp on your hand, you will be warned by security that you will not be admitted back in after you have exited.

Food
Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you will need to starve for the next few hours. We have great food available at the festival premises. Every vegetarian and every meat eater just as well should try the amazing food provided by the Bojo Catering crew. The diehard meat-lovers can buy their Bratwurst from Grillmeister Meta.

Merchandise
All band merchandise is going to be sold in a tent outside the Astra venue.

Venue Change

April 26th, 2010

The Cassiopeia-stage has been moved to the foyer of Astra. This enables us to realize a time schedule without overlaps; it is possible to see all bands’ entire performances in full length now! The Biergarten at Astra will be open instead of the Cassiopeia Biergarten for those who want to chill outside.

2. The Ocean to play special set
The Ocean will play a special 60 minutes set premiering their new album “Heliocentric” and featuring an extended lineup with various extra guest musicians. This will also be filmed for a later DVD release on Metal Blade Records.

3. Cynic cancellation
Cynic have cancelled their appearance at Friction Fest.
This is what the band has to say about their cancellation:

“Our apologies for not being able to perform at Friction Fest. Logistics and the stars weren’t lining up for us this time, but we’ll be back in Europe for some shows in June and a possible longer run in the fall, so stay tuned.”

Being aware of the fact that Cynic cannot easily be replaced, we decided not to add another substitute band.
